Well, this was bound to happen once I bought myself a brand new iPad 2. Now I’ll be handling obsolete equipment soon. Bloomberg recently reported that the next generation of social technology tablets has begun production, and will feature high-density retina displays, a 4G LTE data radio and a quad-core A6 processor.
Foxconn, prodcers of current Apple technology, are reportedly running their factories 24 hours a day to keep up with production deadlines.Pixel density has also reportedly been increased for the third generation model, bringing the device up to spec with a 1536 x 2048 resolution display, and may even have fringe field switching technology to make the display more visible when seen in direct sunlight.
As for thickness, if the iPad 3 can be even thinner than current models, that will truly be amazing. Reports state that Apple might be looking at securing the rights to Sharp’s IGZO technology, but if that doesn’t happen, then the iPad 3 might actually be thicker in order to incorporate all the additional features into its frame.
Still, it sounds like quite the upgrade to Apple’s favoured device, but lets hope that future apps and features don’t exclude us purchasers who bought a fancy device from the company a whole year ago from the party.
