Now, while the idea of skateboards with motors built into them has been around since the days of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, it’s been an idea that has never manged to fully combine these two awesome schools of motion.
The Zboard however, is looking to throw away all those unnecessary remote control throttles and needlessly complex extra gizmos for a board that is more intuitive and successfully fuses skateboarding with serious speed.
Featuring an electric drivetrain and a weight-sensor control system, the magic of the Zboard is that it can operate by correctly sensing shifts in weight, adjusting its motions accordingly.
Think of it this way; If you put your right foot forward and don’t shake it all about, the weight distribution system will intepret that as a signal for acceleration, while shifting weight to the rear applies the breaks. Simple, right?
There’s a 400 Watt motor in tow different forms, with the top speed on the standard version being 15mph (24km/h) over 5 miles (8km), while the Pro version clocks in at 17mph (27km/h) over a 10 mile (16km) range, all bundled in an Li-Ion battery, to save the environment.
The standard and pro boards start shipping next month, and will cost $600 and $850, respectively.
