With the London Olympic Games just around the corner, athletes around the world are preparing themselves for a grueling event to see who the best person is in their field.

Great Britain is understandably doing its very best to make certain that their cities are looking quite tidy, and one eyesore that they’re dealing with right now is the humble old rubbish bin.

And they’re making it terrorist-proof.

More than just a receptacle for your food wrappings and used condoms, the latest bins that are being placed in London feature massive LCD screens and built in wi-fi hotpsots, brightening up the drab locations tremendously. Oh, and they’re also bomb-proof, so at least if some civilians get killed, the bins will be all right.

They aren’t cheap though, and the Renew built cans cost around $1800 apiece to build. London currently has 25 of the hi-tech trash cans set out, waiting to be vandalised, while another 75 are on the way.

New York, Tokyo and Singapore will also be sporting the fancy rubbish bins on their city streets soon as well. Kind of a pricey way to make garbage disposal look attractive, isn’t it?
