Google’s just launched version 17 of it’s desktop browser – but it’s also launched a mobile version of Chrome for Android in beta. For now it’s just for those devices running Google own mobile operating system, but the company’s said it might make its way to iOS at some point. What won;t be making its way to Chrome mobile though is Flash.

Ever.

Adobe’s confirmed that not only does Flash not work on the beta – but it never will.

Today Google introduced Chrome for Android Beta,” the company said in a statement. “As we announced last November, Adobe is no longer developing Flash Player for mobile browsers, and thus Chrome for Android Beta does not support Flash content. Flash Player continues to be supported within the current Android browser.

Instead, Adobe will be pushing its own AIR platform, as well as HTML 5.

Adobe is committed to innovating with Flash. We’ll continue enabling content developers to produce rich and immersive applications on mobile devices and PCs via Adobe AIR, and through PC browsers via Flash Player. Flash is uniquely positioned for creating and publishing advanced gaming and premium video content, and that is where we’re focusing our future investment. We recently released hardware accelerated support for 2D and 3D graphics for Flash Player on the desktop and will soon bring these same capabilities to mobile apps via AIR.

Eventually, when Google replaces Android’s browser with Chrome, Flash support on Android devices will be dead. Maybe Apple was right to stay away from it.
