So apparently, the world will lose out on their soapies and favourite sitcoms later this year in order for coverage of sweaty athletes to be shown instead, as the 2012 Olympics gets closer and closer.

It’s almost upon us, and like in previous years past, various marathon runners are traversing the world, with the Torch in hand to light the massive flames that symbolise the sporting event.

And it’s still as boring as watching grass grow. Fortuantely for us Sci-fi fans, we’ve got something else planned, in the form of a little Star Wars entertainment.

From July 7th through the 11th, nerds who are actually fit enough will be running down the California southern coast, with the Course of the Force event ending at the annual Comic Con event.

The run will also feature sections that fans can buy into and take part in, with the proceeds going to the Make A wish Foundation. If you’re in the area, check it out, as the night-time runs will end with various panels and discussions taking place.

Star Wars fans running a race while waving light-sabers around? Beats watching Comrades Marathon, that’s for sure.
